A little bit of darkness to brighten your day
When you're a little girl who feels like she doesn't fit in, you read all the time, and you make up stories in your head to entertain yourself.
My stories... well, my stories were a little more macabre than those of the average 8-year-old. Somehow or another, they always took a dark turn, got a little twisted along the way.
Imagine you're a little girl. Imagine that, whenever anyone asks you what you want to be when you grow up and you answer "An author!" they pat you on the head and tell you that you're clever and that your stories are good, but that you won't make any money doing that. They tell you that you need to pick a real job. So you listen.
But, if you're me, you never stop making up stories in your head.
So, after years of doing just that--doing jobs that made money but didn't make me happy (except for being a librarian--that one I kind of liked)--I'm back to stories.
Money or no, at least I can get these things out of my head and onto the written page.
At least now, I can share them.
